The examples of the positive experience in organizing scientific research are:

the completed  fundamental state budget R & D № 2507f “Development of scientific principles for the construction of multi-level voltage inverters for alternative power supplies in the Smart Grid system” (actual funding for the full period is 630 000 UAH) and one applied research work: ” Development and creation of a monolithic deflector of light beams on the basis of Bren’s diffraction in a solid state cell for optical telecommunication networks “(annual amount of financing 129.47 thousands UAH), where 11 department employees and 20 students take part in.

The results of the fundamental state budget R & D №2507f have been introduced into the educational process at three universities: in the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” and the Kharkiv National University of Construction and Architecture in the courses “Additional chapters of power electronics”, ” Special Issues of Converting Technology “,” Fundamentals of Computer Integrated Management “. Three candidate theses were defended, one textbook with a stamp of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine was issued, 2 patents of Ukraine were obtained, 14 articles were published, 14 reports were submitted at conferences (14 of them were international ones). According to the results of scientific research students have defended 6 master’s works and 6 diploma projects of specialists.

The work meets the world level. Usage of the development and integration into the Smart Grid system will lower the cost and improve the quality of electrical energy in Smart Grid systems with alternative sources. This allows us to hope for further development of modern science-intensive products at Ukrainian enterprises. At present, the principles of controlling multi-level inverters and filter-compensating devices of a parallel type are introduced at the Kharkov Electromechanical Plant during the design and creation of guaranteed power supply systems. In this case, the correction of reactive power and maintenance of the constant charge of the battery is provided. In the absence of a network, the voltage supply of the required parameters is formed. At OLIMP Ltd (Kharkiv), the principles of formation of the output voltage on the basis of orthogonal spectral transformations were introduced during the development of circuits and analysis of processes in the devices of converting equipment.

All employees of the department take part in 3 innovative developments: «Analysis, synthesis and optimization of electronic systems with power converters», «Principles of energy-efficient management of electrical devices of local objects and Smart Grid networks» and «Software development for multimodulation transformers of electric power parameters».

During the reporting period 39 scientific articles were published by the staff of the department, 19 conferences and seminars, 2 dissertations defenses were held.

Department postgraduate Kovalenko Y. took part in the development and creation of a PolyITAN-1 nanosatellite format “Suesat” (Kubasat) weighing about 1 kg and measuring 10x10x10 cm (http://geektimes.ru/post/230347/). It consists of four subsystem modules: power supply module, radio link module, control module and payload module. A satellite has been created by a group of young scientists and engineers of the Heat and Power Engineering Faculty, the Faculty of Electronics, and the Institute of Telecommunication Systems of NTUU “KPI” under the management of Boris Rassamakina, a candidate of technical sciences. All modules that were developed while creating this unit can be used for a series of other satellites.

The purpose of the launch of the satellite “PolyITAN-1” is the development of technological flight modes; creation and research of solar sensors for small spacecraft; verification of power engineering developed at the university of solar power sources; adaptation to space conditions and improvements for future flights of digital channels for the transfer of information from the satellite to Earth and its management commands; study of the influence of outer space on the work of the electronic subsystems of the satellite; studying the functioning of GPS systems of the original design.

The satellite was launched into space by the rocket launcher “Dnipro” from the base “Yasnyi” (Orenburg region, Russia) at 23 hours 11 minutes local time on June 19, 2014. In 16 minutes after the launch, the nanosatellite successfully departed from the third stage and entered assigned orbit.

Eugene Kovalenko has been developing, modeling and manufacturing the power supply module (consultants: associate professor O.V.Budenny, professor V.Y. Zhuykov). This module provides the selection of maximum power from solar panels, charging of the batteries, monitoring the voltage on each of their elements, balancing the charge of the battery elements, reserving their elements and forming stabilized values ​​of the output voltage.

Postgraduate Y.Kovalenko was awarded a medal for work in the project.
