The problem of sustainable development is compared to a three-legged stool, where the legs are the environment, economy and society. The seat is the knowledge that unites the various components. If there is no knowledge, there is nothing to sit on. If one leg breaks, the whole chair topples over. Although we are already used to working at the intersection of different fields of knowledge, we are now facing a challenge like we have never seen before. Urgent global problems will either be solved together or not at all.
The problem is really big. For a long time, the belief prevailed in many areas that the future would be essentially similar to the past. The reality has shown that in many areas there have been exponential rather than linear changes.
Another threat is the existence of tipping points, when a system suddenly moves to a different state. Moreover, systems in transition can become vicious circles with no way out.
The biggest problem is that we are running out of time. I will illustrate these aspects with the examples of the "three legs".

29 Nov 2023: Prof. Piotr Tryjanowski, Poznan University of Life Sciences, Poland

The problem of mental health is of global importance today, and unfortunately, no effective "magic wand" solution has yet been found. How do natural factors affect a person's emotional state and balance? Does our passion for environmental issues mean that we are moving towards sustainable development? What do birds, cultural background and Google's development trends have to do with it?
Subject: Mental Health and Sustainability – The Importance of Our Relation to Nature
Speaker: Prof. Piotr Tryjanowski from the Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland)
